The light weight aluminum battery box is excellent to use with the EarthX lithium batteries for easy installation!

 

This battery box can be used interchangeably for the EarthX Lithium Battery models ETX680/900/900-vnt/1200 or the Odyssey PC680 with the use of a foam spacers. We call it the multi-use battery box for this reason.

If you are using the battery box for the EarthX Lithium batteries, you will use a foam spacer on the left and right side of the battery for a snug fit. If you are using the battery box for the PC680, you will use the foam spacer on the backside at the bottom of the case to adjust for the tapering of the case for a snug fit. That easy!

This battery box was engineered to be strong enough to withstand 30 G of force for the EarthX Lithium Batteries or 15 G of force for the PC680 yet only weighs 8.6 ounces or 244 grams. This unique design allows for simple, easy installation with the dimensions: 7.1″ L x 3.1″ W x 6.5-6.6″ (adjustable)H or (180mm x 80mm 166-168mm).

As there are so many battery box options on the market, and different hole patterns possible,  we do not know if the hole pattern will match up to your current situation so you might need to drill new holes on the flanges.  Model number BB-MU.

ETX Battery Box Installation Guide

Overview

This document provides recommended guidelines for the installation of EarthX battery boxes.

Number of Required Fasteners

The table below shows the recommended number of fasteners to be used when securing the battery box to a vertical surface, like the engine firewall. The number of fasteners is based on ASTM 2245 6g upward force, plus a 1.5X safety factor (9g downward or upward). The battery weight used in the calculation was the ETX900 (4.9lb).

The material the box is fastened to should be of equal or greater strength than that of the battery box (14ga aluminum or 22ga stainless steel).

Fastener Location

Ideally, the fasteners should be located at the four corners (blue dots) as shown below. Based on the build of the aircraft or battery location it may not be possible to locate fasteners uniformly at the corners or in all the pre-drilled holes provided on the battery box. All that is required is to install a fastener on the top 1/3 length of the support tab and another on the lower 1/3 as shown below. Additionally, the fastener hole should be located at least 1-hole-diameter from the edge of the support tab.
